How To Get Rid Of Large Pores

How To Get Rid Of Large Pores?

Pores are tiny openings on the top layer of our skin. Their function is to release sebum and sweat. The sebum produced by our body keeps our skin lubricated, and the sweat keeps our body temperature stabilized.
From the above description, it is easy to conclude that pores play a vital role in the proper functioning of our body. But when these pores become enlarged, they are often perceived to be unaesthetic.
Let us learn more about open pores, the reasons they become enlarged, what are the different types of pores and how we can reduce them using natural methods.

  • Excess sebum production
Research shows that acne and large pores are often attributed to oily skin. In 2013, a study done with 60 male and female volunteers concluded that sebum secretion levels positively influence the size and number of pores.
  • Ageing
Studies show that the number of pores on our skin increases as we age, and this increment is significant between the ages of 30 and 40. This research also states that the enlargement of pores is related to the severity of ageing.

Another study states that the loss of elasticity around pores, led by ageing also causes pore size to increase.
  • Ethnic factors
Research indicates that pore sizes vary much more with ethnicity than with age. According to a study, Indian and Brazilian women experience enlarged pores as they age, more than Chinese women as they have smaller pores hereditarily.

  • Y shaped pores –
These types of pores are caused by ageing and loss of elasticity. Y-shaped pores look like water droplets, and they can be usually seen on both sides of our cheeks.
  • O shaped pores –
These types of pores are caused by excess oiliness. They usually occur in our t-zone. Their appearance is rounded, and overtime they turn into enlarged circular pores.
  • U shaped pores –
These types of pores occur when our skin is dry or dehydrated. They are ovular in shape, and their appearance gets better when we moisturise our skin.

The simplest way to improve the appearance of pores is by assessing your skin care routine step by step and making necessary adjustments –
  • Cleansing –
For oily skin, use a cleanser which is gentle, but also clarifying in nature. It will keep excess oil at bay and ensure that your pores remain clean and unclogged. However, do not cleanse excessively as it may cause dehydration and force your skin into producing even more sebum.

For dry skin, use a nourishing cleanser that contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredients to cleanse and soften your skin.
  • Toning –
Use steam-distilled hydrosol or flower water which contains astringent benefits to tone and hydrate your skin. It will act as a second cleanser to remove residual oil and dirt without causing dryness.
  • Exfoliation –
According to research, a combination of physical exfoliation and alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) has a synergistic effect on reducing acne and the number of pores on our skin. It also eliminates whiteheads and blackheads.
  • Face mask –
Use a clay mask to prevent congestion, oiliness, and clogging of pores. Clays such as rhassoul clay and bentonite clay act as magnets to pull out dirt from our skin, remove dead skin and improve the appearance of enlarged pores.
  • Moisturising –
People with oily skin often skip this step. This leads to dehydration in the long run and signals your skin to produce even more oil. Try using lightweight and fast-absorbing oils such as Cold Pressed Rosehip Seed Oil or Cold Pressed Hemp Seed Oil to moisturise your skin.

For dry skin, prefer nourishing oils that take some time to get absorbed into your skin, like Cold Pressed Pumpkin Seed Oil or Cold Pressed Marula Oil.

According to a study, boosting skin’s elasticity is an important step in the prevention of enlarged facial pores by using natural ingredients.
Juicy Chemistry’s cold pressed oils improve skin elasticity, enhance collagen synthesis, and prevent early signs of ageing to boost pore health.
  • Sun protection –
Sun damage is one of the primary causes of early signs of ageing. It not only influences the quality of your skin but also deteriorates pore health. Use our Camellia and Red Raspberry Certified Natural Sunscreen everyday to prevent sun damage and ageing.
