How Organic soaps are different from commercial soaps?
Commercial soaps are manufactured in bulk in large factories, using the most economical ingredients and contains synthetic or lab-made surfactants to give them a rich lather. Juicy Chemistry’s handcrafted Gourmet Soaps are hand made in small batches using the traditional slow cold processed method. They contain a high percentage of nutrient-rich vegetable oils, organic botanicals, purifying earth clays, fresh fruit & vegetable and ultra-moisturising butter for their exceptional skincare benefits. They are further fortified with a combination of pure therapeutic grade essential oils to manufacture a skin-loving bar of soap that is gentle, yet leaves the skin feeling clean, fresh and nourished. Our soaps are carefully formulated to ensure that each ingredient chosen, imparts a particular quality to the finished soap.

Most commercial soap manufacturers remove the glycerine from the soap, while our pure soaps are the result of a chemical reaction between oils, water and lye and when combined, they transform into soap and glycerine with no lye remaining in the final product.

How our Organic Soaps are Made?
The cold-process is an age-old technique, dating as early as 2800 BC in ancient Babylon! It involves combining oils and sodium hydroxide i.e., commonly known as lye. The following chemical reaction is known as saponification. Saponification is an exothermic reaction (heat is released) wherein oils and fats react with lye to form soap. The word ‘saponification’ literally means ‘turning into soap’ and comes from the Latin word ‘Sapo’ that also means soap.

We do not add surfactants to give our soaps rich, foamy lather instead they have a mild lather derived from saponified oils.

Once the soap is cured (which takes up to 45 days), no lye remains in our finished product.

Our recipes are meticulously developed to produce a mild, rich, soothing soap that feels creamy in your hands, offers a magnificent long-lasting lather, and leaves your skin and hair feeling clean, soft, silky, and radiantly healthy.

How and Why Organic Soaps Smell Different Over Time?
You may wonder why does the scent of organic soap changes over time while that of a commercial soap remains consistent over a long period of time. The answer lies in the fact that commercial soaps use synthetic fragrance oils which don’t wither away with time. However, our organic soaps derive their scent from essential oils.

The scent of pure organic essential oils is fragile and are subject to change over time. Even during saponification, the scent might differ (due to change in temperature). But does change in scent means the product has gone bad?

No. The product hasn’t gone bad, it’s the scent that has worn away over time and is a natural phenomenon with essential oils.

There are also other ingredients that go into making an organic soap such as butter and unrefined oils. These tend to have a scent of their own which mixes with the scents of essential oils.

Similarly, the colour of the soap bar may change over time too. Our organic soaps get their colour from its organic ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, natural clays with no added artificial colour. Therefore, the colour may as well change just like the scent of essential oils.

In order to get the maximum benefit from our organic soaps, make sure that you let them breathe, exposure to air promotes hardening of the soap and that makes it last longer. Also, make sure to properly drain it after every single use. Our soaps have a shelf life of 12 months from opening.
